Before you call
It helps to have:
- The property address, so your request reaches a contractor who works there
- New fence or repair, and roughly how many feet
- The material you have in mind: wood, vinyl, chain link, rail or wire
- How many gates, and how wide they need to be
- Anything about the ground: slope, rock, drainage easements or private buried lines
Fence down after a windstorm? Keep dogs and livestock away from loose panels, nails and wire, take photos before cleanup if you plan to file an insurance claim, and don't dig new post holes until buried lines have been marked through South Dakota 811.
